Simple Keep Fit Exercises
Improving your health and fitness
Exercise equipment essentially falls into two categories. It either emphasises cardiovascular training or strength training.
Equipment for cardio work would be the following :-
If you need a good cardio workout and want to jog but prefer to do it in private then this could be the choice. The treadmill basically comprises a large conveyor belt on wheels which can be powered by electricity.
They have LCD screens which the user can use to monitor his or her performance.
Some can simulate running on an inclined surface, and others have equipment to monitor a person's heart rate levels.
Stationary bikes are a great way to target the hips, legs, and buttocks.
As with the the treadmills, stationary bikes give the body a great cardiovascular workout.
An elliptical trainer is an exercise machine which simulates walking or running, but with a decrease in the pressure put on joints resulting in a lowering of the risk of injury.
The workout can be adjusted in intensity according to the user's preference.
Equipment for strength work would be the following :-
Free weights are the sort of equipment that a seasoned bodybuilder might use. When using free weights, any exercise you perform completely engages the muscles you are trying to target.
Home gyms are machines which can give you a total body workout. Before you go the route of a home gym, you should ask yourself what you want out of your training. If it is to greatly increase your muscle mass, then free weights might be a better proposition. If it is to simply stay fit and healthy, then a home gym might be best. Space will also be a consideration as home gyms can take up a lot of room.
Exercise balls are discussed in greater detail here. Exercise balls
Crunch machines are often advertised on the TV. They develop the abdominal muscles, supposedly in a convenient and comfortable way. The price ranges from $20 to about $500. If you would prefer to do ab exercises in this way then give one a go, preferrably at the lower price range to begin with.
It's probably better to purchase the equipment mentioned above in a specialised fitness store rather than a department store. In a fitness store the salespeople will be able to cater more for your needs and queries.
